A certified organic Wisconsin cheese for less than $7.00 per pound?  Too good to be true?  Not if you shop in the Coop’s Cheese Department. 
  
Rochdale Farms is a new line of cheese here at the Co-op.  Rochdale products are produced at K&K Creamery of Cashton, Wisconsin.  The milk for their Cheddars and Co-Jack comes from about 300 very small Amish family farms in Vernon and Green County, Wisconsin.  The cows are all hand milked and the average herd size is 15-20 cows. 

Here at Seward, you can find two Rochdale cheddars that are made from hormone free milk, as well as three certified organic cheeses, including the $6.99 per pound Colby-jack.  Rochdale cheeses not only taste great, but the company operates ethically.  “We pay our farmers a fair price for their milk to help them make a living and we provide a clean, wholesome product at a good price for coop consumers,” said Mary Bess Michaletz, a Rochdale co-founder.  
 
Rochdale is also making several artisan cheeses.  Their cellar cured Gouda is made from grass fed milk, aged for two years, and has an intense flavor.  Their blue is likewise made from grass fed milk and is cave aged at Faribault Dairy, which gives it a complex flavor.  Lastly, Rochdale Aged Goat Cheese is just a great tasting goat cheese.

Rochdale products are available exclusively at area co-ops, including here at Seward.

Hot Lunches
Seven days a week we offer a selection of hotlunch items. Stop by and try our diverse menu with items such as: Tandoori chicken, balsamic roast beets with caramelized onions, Vegetarian enchiladas verde and vegetarian pizza. See this week's menu here.

Sandwiches

We make sandwiches fresh everyday, plump with organic and natural ingredients. And they're always ready in our grab-and-go cooler. You can have a different sandwich every day, for example; sesame tempeh with red onions, juicy tomatoes, romaine lettuce with carrot cashew spread with on locally made fresh New French breads or Rudi's organic breads. On top of that, our deli meat is sliced fresh from all-natural Applegate or Beeler's roasts.

Don't forget to try our fabulous brownies and scones, with an assortment of vegan or gluten-free options.

Vegetarian and Vegan Foods

In the deli we work with fresh, organic and seasonal ingredients, and we also cater to the specialty diet. We offer vegetarian and vegan entrees like Artichoke Swiss Quiche, Pad Thai, and Spinach Calzones. We also offer healthy, handy salads including New Delhi Cashew Curry, Hunan Spring Salad, and Greek Orzo.

Soups

In addition to all these lovely dishes, we make daily homemade hot soups like Gypsy Stew, Spaghetti Squash Soup, and Curried Red Lentil Soup.

In the Deli we strive to make fabulously healthy food. Every day provides a fun and challenging opportunity to create delicious dishes, scrumptious smoothies, and fresh vegetable juices, and to offer fresh and mostly organic vegetables in our salad bar.
