One way Seward Co-op lives its Ends Statement to “sustain a healthy community” is through robust community grant and donation programs. The SEED program allows customers to “round-up” their grocery bill for a monthly recipient non-profit. Seward Community Fund grants are awarded annually in the amount of $1,000 per recipient. We also offer gift cards to non-profits for use at silent auctions, fundraisers, or other one-time events. In addition to these donation programs, the co-op provides monetary sponsorships for local events and nonprofits. These sponsorships have supported a wide range of organizations and causes aligned with the values of the cooperative movement.
Seward Co-op gift cards enable dozens of community nonprofits to purchase food for fundraising or volunteer events for their organizations.
The SEED program is a simple yet powerful community giving opportunity that allows customers to “round-up” their grocery bill for recipient organizations that share our commitment to a healthy community. All funds donated at the register are given directly to the recipient organization at the end of each month, often totaling over $20,000 per month.
In 2019, $276,352 SEED donations generated for local non-profits.
Seward Community Fund
Seward Community Co-op launched the Seward Community Fund (SCF) in 2005. SCF embodies our co-op’s commitment to grow not just as a business, but also as a community resource for organizations whose work aligns with our vision for a healthy community. SCF grants are awarded annually in the amount of $1,000 per recipient. Applications are reviewed by a grant committee comprised of co-op staff, and recipients are announced annually at the the Annual Owner Meeting.
One Cycle Perks Grant of $1,000 is awarded annually to a bike-related organization as part of our commitment to positive environmental impacts through promoting alternative transportation.
