Learn About Whistling Well Farm
Whistling Well Farm, founded in 1972, is an apple orchard located in the St. Croix River Valley. After time spent working as schoolteachers, Carol and Charlie Johnson started the farm with some cows and grain crops, but by 1980, they had planted apple trees with their sons. Today, a selection of Minnesota’s favorite apple varieties are grown there, such as First Kiss, SweeTango, Honeycrisp, Haralson, and Zestar. Named for the farm’s well that whistles when wind bounces off the nearby St. Croix River bluffs, Whistling Well now has thousands of apple trees. They offer autumn-time picking at the farm while also selling their apples to area co-ops, including Seward Co-op.
