Sewing Sustainably: Produce Bags with An Upcycled Closet

Students will create two reusable produce bags out of sustainably sourced and second hand materials. Students will learn the basics of sewing to structure their bags and feel empowered to make their own reusable bags for themselves, or as great gifts for friends and family! No experience needed, all levels welcome! All supplies will be provided but participants are welcome to bring whatever they would feel most comfortable using (sewing machines, fabrics, etc).

Making Winter Medicines

December 1, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

In this workshop participants will learn the basics about making herbal syrups, infused vinegars and tinctures. Participants will make and take home Elderberry Syrup, Fire Cider, and Echinacea Tincture. Students take home medicines.

Board of Directors January Meeting

Meetings of Seward Co-op’s Board of Directors are open to any co-op owner. Please email board@seward.coop in advance of the meeting to indicate your intention to attend. This will allow us to notify you in the event of scheduling changes. The first regular board meeting of 2020 is Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6:15 p.m. at the Creamery, 2601 E. Franklin Ave. Co-op owners are welcome to observe; your advance RSVP is politely requested. An agenda is here.

The board has allocated time during the Jan. 28 meeting for a Hopes and Dreams discussion with guests. Directors intend to prepare themselves for an upcoming board retreat, and they invite you to come to share your Hopes and Dreams for Seward Co-op. A 10-minute co-op owners comment period will follow, and individual time allotment is dependent on number of owners who wish to speak. To indicate your intention to attend and participate in the discussion and/or comment period, please email board@seward.coop prior to Jan. 28.

Seward Co-op’s Board of Directors is comprised of nine elected co-op owners who serve the co-op for three-year terms. The board typically meets 9-10 times a year on the last Tuesday of the month, at 6:15 p.m. The co-op’s board of directors appreciates hearing from you! They are available to answer questions and provide information about cooperative governance.

Opioid overdose prevention – Narcan Training with Valhalla Place

December 14, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Valhalla Place is a premier provider of addiction and mental health services in the Twin Cities. In this class presented by Stephanie Devich and Seward Co-op you will learn about local opioid trends, high risks of overdose, signs of sedation versus overdose, and how to administer the lifesaving drug Narcan in an opioid overdose situation. You will also learn the laws protecting you in case of an overdose reversal. All attending will receive a free Narcan kit to take home.
