Learn About Football Pizza
In 2000, Meerwais and Nicole Azizi opened Crescent Moon Bakery, an eatery serving Afghan foods off Central Ave in Northeast Minneapolis. It wouldn’t be long before a second location opened, and as their food developed, so did their name. A unique pizza—in the shape of a football—grew to be their main staple, and so they became what they’re known as today: Football Pizza.
Now with three locations and an assortment of grocery stores selling their frozen pizzas, Football Pizza is a mainstay for game day and everyday eats. Meerwais, an Afghan immigrant, and his family bring a variety of Central Asian flavors not only to their pizzas (with toppings like gyro meat, eggplant, and feta) but also to their other dishes, which include items like chicken tikka, shami kabob, and baklava.
For Football Pizza, working with grocers like Seward Co-op helps their product and brand gain further reach within the local community. It also provides on-the-ground support for small businesses in the Twin Cities. Football Pizza believes the key to a healthy community is people collaborating and aiding one another to achieve their goals, all while staying conscious of what is needed throughout that community. Seward Co-op is proud to support local, small-scale businesses like Football Pizza.
