Founded in 2016, Blooming Prairie Natural Beef is located in Blooming Prairie, Minn. A year into their operations, they began offering 100% grass-fed beef, which Seward Co-op has been carrying since. Blooming Prairie keeps sustainability top of mind. Owning their own processing facility in Geneva, Minn., they are able to more efficiently manage their inventory in response to customer demand, leading to less waste and maximizing shelf life of product. Their cattle graze on multiple pastures during the warmer months and are supplemented with a mix of hay and sudangrass when winter prevents grazing. All of the beef Seward Co-op receives from Blooming Prairie is whole carcass and cut fresh in house. The product available in the case comes from the same steer, ordered directly from the farmer and prepared for you by highly-skilled butchers on staff.
Personal connections and relationships are important to the producers at Blooming Prairie, which is one of the reasons they enjoy working with food co-ops. For them, knowing who produces you food fosters a healthy community, and trust within the community, and community engagement is what sets co-ops apart from conventional grocers.
