Blackbrook Farm is a Certified Organic diversified family farm located in Western Wisconsin, about 60 miles NE of the Twin Cities. On their 140 acre farm, farmowners James and Ayla Dodge grow vegetables, herbs, and fruit for a 120-member CSA and direct to consumers. They also raise pastured heritage-bred hogs, a small herd of Scottish Highland cattle and certified organic meat chickens. 2021 is the 10th anniversary of Blackbrook Farm!
From managing the soils on our farm, to thoughtfully choosing pest and weed management tactics, Blackbrook Farm seeks to increase the diversity of our biological world, both above and below ground. Sustainable farming includes nurturing the soils rather than treating the crops. To be stronger stewards of the land and of the vegetables and livestock, James and Ayla feel it is better to work toward understanding the causes than it is to treat the symptoms. In turn, when you choose Blackbrook Farm produce you are supporting rich land for future generations to come. As organic farmers some of their farming practices include using cover crops, green manures, crop rotations, and animal manures to grow healthy crops and increase soil biodiversity.
New in 2021- Mutual Aid option: This initiative allows you to purchase a share or donate to scholarships providing subsidized and free produce for households that desire and would otherwise be unable to afford a CSA share.
