Where the Driftless Region meets the North Woods, just outside Wheeler, Wis., Lauren and Caleb Langworthy manage Blue Ox Farm. They manage a 120-ewe flock of sheep and a small beef herd in a managed rotational grazing system. This type of management mimics natural systems and provides for good animal health and welfare, habitat for local biodiversity, regional water quality improvement, and carbon sequestration. The Blue Ox farmers also focus on farmer and eater education and advocacy for food system policies that support family farms, local eating, and the strength of our communities. Blue Ox offers whole lamb shares and quarter beef shares to members which can be custom cut with the eater’s cooking preferences in mind. This supports their ethic of ensuring the whole animal is utilized and offers exciting culinary opportunities for member families. Lauren and Caleb are happy to support new members as they navigate the process of purchasing local whole-animal meat shares.
“Blue Ox Farm helps you engage with agriculture. We farm to improve our community: to care for animals, support biodiversity and clean water, and provide high-quality products to people we care about.”
