About Tortilleria Zepeda
Tortilleria Zepeda was founded in 2019 when owner Julian Zepeda moved from Mexico to Wisconsin and found himself missing the tortillas of his childhood. Searching for a familiar flavor, he asked his abuela to teach him nixtamalization, an ancient, 3,500-year-old technique used by precolonial Indigenous nations that transforms corn into a more flavorful, nourishing, and digestible food. This began as a personal project that grew into a passion as Julian discovered others who were longing for the same taste of home. After years of learning from master tortilleros in Mexico, Julian brought this knowledge to Lone Rock, Wisc., where Tortilleria Zepeda produces 100% nixtamalized tortillas using locally grown, organic corn.
