Season’s Eatings with Winter Cheeses
Blakesville Creamery Holiday Cheer
For a stunning presentation on your best cheese board, look no further than Blakesville Creamery’s Holiday Cheer. Japanese Sakura cherry leaves are soaked in brandy and pressed around a creamy puck of orange-kissed chevre. Unfurl the leaves for a stunning star-like arrangement around the cheese. This cheese smells like a classic boozy old fashioned and showcases an almost woodsy flavor. We love it paired with local Beez Kneez honey to bring out some of the fresh, floral notes. Alternatively, bring out some of the cheese’s deeper flavors with a drizzle of maple syrup. Holiday Cheer would also be delightful crowned with jam or the decadent, gooey insides of a persimmon. Note: as beautiful as the leaves are, they’re not edible!
Alemar Apricity
Apricity means “the warmth of the winter sun” and it really is a punch of sunshine for a cold winter snack. This soft, spreadable cheese has flavors that are reminiscent of warm summer breezes and fresh, grassy fields. Its texture is light and fluffy and has a crisp tang that melts in your mouth, leaving warm and buttery notes on the palate. If it sits in your fridge for a while, it only gets better with age–look forward to a funkier flavor as it ages.
Pine River Toasted Onion Spread
Cold-packed cheese is a Midwestern staple. Park it next to a shrimp ring and a slow cooker full of little weenies and it’s right at home, as long as there are buttery crackers nearby. Pine River’s Toasted Onion spread elevates a classic, with chives and roasty, toasty onions suspended in creamy, golden, smearable cheese. Slap a piece of local Lowry Hill salami on top for a finger-licking holiday treat.
Beehive Cheese Trufflehive
Nothing says “fancy dinner party” like the extravagance of truffles. Even if your party isn’t black tie, it can still have black truffles with Beehive Cheese’s Trufflehive. Pale and smooth white Utah cheddar is rubbed with Regalis Black Truffle Carpaccio, sweet honey, and truffled salt. One wedge packs an earthy punch with a savory scent and leaves an umami-forward mushroom flavor on the palate. This rich treat is a delight for the holiday season.
