Roots Essential is women-owned and locally operated in Wayzata, MN. Handmade in small batches, their mission is to offer naturally healing skin and body care through clean products and sustainable practices.

With a background as a sports massage therapist and cultural upbringing, owner Evangeline Stacy witnessed how naturally-made body care products could help in the world of injury prevention and rehabilitation. As a gift for clients who were local athletes navigating a difficult rehab, Evangeline customized a bath soak to aid recovery. Clients raved about the bath soak and thus Roots Essential was born. Today, Roots Essential offers handmade bath and body products, ranging from lotions to bath salts to aromatherapy sprays, all made with natural and plant-based ingredients.

Roots Essential products are mindfully designed for simplified living. From their multipurpose soaps to their product’s packaging, sustainability is their highest priority. Roots Essential’s rich, plant-based products are formulated “free” from animal cruelty, artificial color, formaldehyde, parabens, petroleum, synthetic fragrances, sodium lauryl sulfate, and GMOs.

Impact of the Pandemic & Roots Essential

Similar to many other small-scale businesses, Roots Essential had experienced struggles and opportunities. In the peak of the pandemic, sourcing raw materials and packaging became a challenge. Stacy initially struggled with raw material shortages due to large companies having access and the resources to buy large quantities these materials to respond to high demands in the market. However, during the past year Stacy managed to source materials for Roots Essential to even develop a new hand sanitizer made with plant-based ingredients that also moisturize. These hand sanitizers are now available at Seward Co-op stores.
