You may have read in the news that New York state recently implemented a plastic bag ban. This is great news and is a big step toward positive environmental impacts. On the other hand, this has added pressure to an already strained paper bag supply chain, which means Seward Co-op and other retailers may experience a paper bag shortage. Please remember your reusable bags when shopping at Seward Co-op. Together, we can maintain a positive shopping experience for all.
In August, Seward Co-op announced that clean reusable bags and bulk containers were welcome for use once again in stores. This change is one important way the co-op and community members can join together to sustain a healthy community with positive environmental impacts during these challenging times. Please note, this change does not include reusable mugs and beverage containers. As experts learn more about COVID-19, CDC guidance indicates objects and surfaces are not a primary way for coronavirus spread. However, reusable beverage containers continue to present a concern about transmission due to their direct contact with a person’s mouth. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate the pandemic in a way that prioritizes safety and well-being of our staff and community.
As we transition away from pre-packed bulk items please remember to practice social distancing in the Bulk department. To minimize risks for shoppers and staff, reusable bags and containers must be regularly washed. Please bring only clean containers and bags with you when you shop.
