Dear Valued Seward Co-op Shoppers,
We are reaching out to our community to let you know about an unfortunate, albeit common, credit card scam we recently encountered. A credit card skimmer was detected at Lane 4 at the Franklin store Saturday night, May 11. Skimmers are false PIN pads that are installed on ATMs, point of sale terminals, and gas pumps that collect credit card information and PINs. This information can be used to create fake debit or credit card accounts or steal funds from victims. It was immediately removed once it was detected. Video footage revealed that it was placed there Friday morning, May 10 at open, around 8 a.m.
From the time it was installed to the time it was removed, 493 transactions took place. We notified police and filed a report. We also reported it to the Department of Commerce. We’ve also reported this to our payment processor, Fiserv,
We have implemented some internal processes on our end to help to minimize and protect our shoppers against fraudulent activities such as skimmers.
For those who shopped at our Franklin store during that time and have concerns about their information being skimmed, please check your account ledgers for unknown transactions and reach out to your banks to let them know about any fraudulent activity.
We understand this situation is frustrating and unsettling. Please know that we are committed to your security and are here to help in any way we can. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to resolve this issue.
