$0.05 Bag Charge Effective Wednesday, May 19
Single-use shopping bags – both paper and plastic – take resources to produce and often go directly into landfills after use. To minimize environmental impacts from shopping bags, for more than a decade, Seward Co-op has not provided plastic bags at checkout and we’ve provided a $0.10 reusable bag credit. Starting Wednesday, May 19, the co-op will reinstate a bag charge, to comply with the City of Minneapolis “bring your own bag” ordinance. Prioritizing a reusable grocery bag whenever possible is one way the co-op and community members can join together to sustain a healthy community with positive environmental impacts.
Last August, we announced that clean reusable bags and bulk containers were welcome for use once again in our stores, after a brief pause due to COVID-19 concerns. (This does not include reusable mugs and beverage containers.) Please remember to grab your reusable bag for your next co-op shopping trip! Friendly reminder to bring only clean containers and bags with you when you shop.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate the pandemic in a way that prioritizes the safety and well-being of our staff, community, and natural environment.
