Bent River Camembert

In my opinion, Bent River Camembert is the best domestic camembert around. Made right here in Mankato, Minn., the Alemar Cheese Co. makes it using org. Cedar Summit milk. Try pairing it with Duhaime orange & cranberry spread for the perfect  appetizer. - Lori, Cheesemonger

Seward Co-op 9th Annual CSA Fair
Saturday, April 24th 2010
11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Meet the farmers attending this year's fair!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) works like this: members commit to paying a share of the farm’s operational costs and in return the farm commits to supplying members with seasonal produce. Together, the farmers and the members experience the risk and the bounty of the growing season.

Seward Co-op values the connection that Community Supported Agriculture fosters between farmer and consumer. Each spring, Seward Co-op hosts a CSA Fair. The fair serves as a connecting point for shopper and farmer. Shoppers can learn more about the CSA movement directly from the farmers. The fair also gives farmers a chance to showcase their growing philosophies and talk with shoppers about what they have to offer their CSA members.

Seward Co-op's CSA Fair is an ideal way to strengthen the connections between the growers, where the food comes from and who eats it. For those interested in supporting local markets, the CSA Fair is a great opportunity to meet those that produce local goods. Each farm has a unique feel that sets them apart from other farms. Talking with the farmers allows shoppers to decide which farm fits best for them.

Why eat Local food?

There are many benefits to eating local food. It's good for the economy because money from each transaction stays in the region. It connects community members to the people who produce their food. Plus, since food doesn't travel far from where it is produced, eating local also helps protect the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Local food is more nutritious and simply tastes better, too, because it's often harvested or processed the same day it arrives at the co-op.

Local

Seward Co-op calls attention to local food on our shelves with stickers and shelf tags for easy identification. Although "local" is a buzzword used by many retailers, Seward Co-op has for years cultivated truly reciprocal, long-term relationships with local growers and producers, offering its shoppers a convenient connection to fresh and delicious food of the highest quality.

Seward Co-op Definition of 'Local'
Products are considered local if:

Local5State

  • They are grown or produced in the five-state region (MN, WI, SD, ND, IA).
  • Some level of production (beyond repackaging) must takes place locally. For example, a local coffee roaster is considered local. Although the raw product is not grown here, the coffee is roasted and packaged in the area, supporting local business.

Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily | 612-338-2465 | 2823 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55406
