Know Our Grower: Featherstone Farm

October 16, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Come meet the people who grow our food! Oct. 25 Featherstone Farm will be at the Friendship store from 3-6 p.m.

About Featherstone Farm
Beginning in May with leaf lettuce, through a summer’s harvest of zucchini and cherry tomatoes, into winter squash and carrots in the winter, there’s hardly a month that Featherstone isn’t represented in the co-op’s Produce department. The farm is certified organic and is dedicated to creating a truly sustainable agriculture system. That includes geothermal heating and cooling for the packing shed, as well as a solar array that generates about 60% of the farm’s energy. Featherstone also operates a large community-supported agriculture program.

Product Commitment

Seward Community Co-op carries a wide variety of products to meet the differing needs of our shoppers. Our dedication to sustaining a healthy community leads us to emphasize the Community Foods: Values Every Day program, which supports producers with at least two of these qualities:

  • Inclusive i.e. people of color, women, LGBTQIA+, disabled and/or veteran owned
  • Small scale
  • Local i.e. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa
  • Cooperative
  • Sustainable

With our history in natural foods, we remain committed to offering products with straightforward ingredients. We value organic certification to provide assurance that foods are grown and processed safely and sustainably. We also provide options to those with specific dietary needs.

As a cooperative, we believe in the power of economic democracy. Rather than discontinuing a product line during a boycott, we encourage shoppers to vote with their dollars.

November 17, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

‘Doc’ Pat Dougherty is an artist and multi-instrumentalist that started writing songs in a borrowed storage closet on the West Bank of Minneapolis.

After touring the United States with several DIY bands for a few years, they took a year off and wrote a song a week debuting each new work at residency gig at the former Minneapolis haunt Reverie and forming the sound that led to Theyself: a mix of Americana roots woven with stompin’ beats, indie pop hooks, and soulful blues.
