Event Cancelled Due To Hurricane Cindy
Due to tropical storm Cindy, our anticipated delivery of cooperatively grown watermelons from the Federation of Southern Cooperatives (FSC) has been delayed. At this time, we are cancelling Sunday’s event at the Seward Co-op Creamery Café, organized to welcome FSC farmer and board member Ben Burkett. We hope our partner farmers are able to weather the storm and are not forced to endure significant crop loss as a result. We are still hopeful that Ben and the watermelons will have a safe journey north and will update our website and social media pages with details once we know more. Thank you for supporting our efforts to build fair and just supply chains. This unexpected situation highlights the importance of these relationships.
Join Seward Co-op for an evening with our newest farm partner: the Federation of Southern Cooperatives. The Federation of Southern Cooperatives supports the economic development of Black farmers and the rural poor, with an emphasis on land retention and development. Federation board member and farmer Ben Burkett will travel north in a semi-truck brimming with ripe, red watermelons, which will be available for purchase at area co-ops. Help us welcome Ben and, more importantly, honor this important new relationship within our co-op network! Seward Co-op and the Federation of Southern Cooperatives are both proud members of the Domestic Fair Trade Association. At this event, hear about efforts to build supply chains dedicated to fairness and equity.
