Microgreens: Cascarones – A Smashing Mexican Easter Tradition!

Learn about the Mexican tradition of making and enjoying cascarones- decorated, confetti-filled eggs used for Easter celebrations. Seward Co-op staff member Natalia Mendez will share stories from their family about the history of the eggs, as well as instruct how to make, decorate, and enjoy them – with a crack over the heads of friends! This is a family-friendly, hands-on event.

Kids ages 8-12 and their parent/guardian are invited to learn how to prepare simple, tasty meals using new and familiar ingredients found at Seward Co-op. We’ll learn basics of kitchen safety and give hands-on demonstrations with recipes you can make with your whole family!

Join us as we unveil the completed remodel of our Franklin Ave store! From 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. you can explore the store and try samples from a variety of our Community Foods vendors. Enter raffles to win awesome Seward freebies, and enjoy live music by Corazón En La Mano in our dining area. Bring the whole family for “Microgreens” fun in the new, store-level classroom – we’ll be painting festive veggies from our produce department, tasting new foods, and more.

Since 2001, Stefanie Levi (vocals, doumbek) and James Allen (guitar) have been playing together as CORAZON EN LA MANO. Their repertoire includes melodic, inspirational songs from folk, resistance, and singer/songwriter traditions, including Australian, British Isles, Cuban, Greek, Italian, Jewish, North American and Palestinian.

Midwest Food Connection inspires young people to deepen their relationship with food, benefiting their bodies, their communities, and the earth. Join us for a kid-centered class dedicated to healthy, simple, and fun recipes!
Explore how new fruits from different climates around the world are constantly being introduced to us in North America! Even the apple was once new. We will take a look at many lesser known and interesting fruits from around the world. Students will become acquainted with a variety of flavors as we taste, learn and explore.
